No. 1 _  "Artist Project" (for MPNE student_)

ABOUT THE PROJECT

During the Fall of 2017, I was asked to be the artist for a 7th semester MPNE student's "Artist Project". We had to produce two of my original songs for her assignment across the whole semester, and with that, further develop my image as an artist.

It was an interesting experience, because I learned to share my artistic insight and also learned how to allow that insight to develop with the aid of another persons opinions.

I came away with two songs that I feel proud of, with a clearer idea in mind of how I like to work as an artist and also a determination to progress my music in the direction I want to head in.

No. 2 _ Caf Show (Lorelai_)

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Lorelai is a band that I created along with Australian saxophonist and producer James Vincent (JIM ALXNDR). He is also a student at Berklee and his major is EPD. We began as an acoustic duo in our first semester (Spring 2017) and have since grown to a band that incorporates our Electronic Pop vibe.

On the 1st of December, "Lorelai" performed a Caf Show. We put together a set of all original Electronic Pop music, and performed with a full band of Berklee students.

It was an interesting journey to get to the Caf Show, because the show is what transformed "Lorelai" from a duo to a band. We had to work to get our music to translate from computer generated sounds to live instruments, and yet still embody our sound. We were lucky to work with a bunch of incredibly talented musicians we know from Berklee, to bring our music to life.

It was such a surreal experience that took a lot of planning, rehearsals, and promotion, but it was the best project I've participated in thus far at Berklee.

2017/18

Through my collaboration with other Berklee students to put together this show, I have grown as an artist. I have found my own sound, learnt to adapt that sound to fit a group, learned the skills of band and show management and created and performed music that I thoroughly love and grow through. We plan to expand and continue our journey as a band, with our eyes currently set on an EP in the near future and building a fan base through videos, gigging and promotion of other material.

During the Summer semester of 2017, I was given a Scholarship Assignment to participate in a rating 2 Mixed Styles Ensemble. They were needing a vocalist to meet weekly, learnt he songs and perform in their end of semester performance. We learned and performed a range of contemporary styles from Jazz to R&B, with songs like "Shiny Stockings" (Jazz Standard) to artists like Alicia Keys.

It was a wonderful experience, because I was able to learn and understand what it is like to be a working musician. I didn't have the incentive of a grade to motivate, but rather a sense of responsibility and the rubric of the job I was "employed" to fulfill. I enjoyed the feeling of expectation from the Professor - Mark Copeland, to know everything and if I didn't know, learn it quickly. Through the ensemble, I got better at working as a musician - learning music quickly and for a purpose, and better at interacting as part of a band.
